Seller asking to return wrong / compromised package they sent me and pay for it

Country: Canada Account type: Personal The seller is asking me to return the wrong object that they sent as a claim resolution, why should I be paying for their mistake? I received a worthless piece of junk (weight rings) in a package that was supposed to be an electronic device worth around 2000$ from China. I paid 40$ for the seller protection’s service (banggood insurance). After receiving the scam or mistake (?) I contacted them multiple times over 3 weeks and they always kept pushing back and asking to wait. I was fed up and opened a claim with PayPal. Same thing… no response. Then I escalated and PayPal wants me to pay to send this worthless package back to China? What the hell! There’s no way to add comments to the claim. Why should I pay for the seller’s mistake? Plus, I bought their shipping insurance. I’m not going to pay $100+ to ship a worthless box of crap to China, am I?

Because that is exactly what paypal say happens in their buyer protection policy for you to read and risk assess your transactions.

In the event of a dispute you choose your seller and not Paypal so you need to bear in mind possible return trackable costs before you go ahead and buy from that seller / country.

Paypal state this >>
IMPORTANT: You may be required to return the item to the seller or other party we specify as part of the settlement of your claim. PayPal Buyer Protection does not entitle you to reimbursement for the return shipping costs that you may incur.

Although they will compensate you for some of the cost if you have activated this at some point before you made that transaction.

You also have the option to do a chargeback via your card issuer instead of a Paypal dispute if you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card.
