I just got scammed when I paid for a purchase and it was a donation. I did not realize it can never be disputed. the seller disappeared but the website still exist using the same paypal account. I tried my best to connect with paypal to shut this guys account, i was not even asking for a refund. I have not been successful. How do I report to paypal, if I report through my account they just close the dispute saying it cant be disputed. its almost like encouraging these scammers.
Donations show during the payment process so if you choose to 'donate' funds and not use goods/services then sadly that is not covered by buyer protection. I doubt they would shut the account down as all he is doing is asking for a donation and you agreed.
If you used a credit card then see if your card issuer will chargeback for you? However they may refuse for the same reason ie it was a donation.

Why is PayPal allowing sellers to ask for donations, when they are advertising items for sale, if they are not a registered charity, surely PayPal should stop them asking for donations and cancel their selling account. Unless PayPal can't be bothered. And are happy to accommodate scammers.
Happened to me, it said confirm payment went to confirm and as I pressed it I noticed to late that it said donation. Opened case,2 minutes later cased closed. How can paypal allow that, totally false advertsing.
