When my brother called paypal asking how to find his year-to-date total sales, they told him he could only get monthly totals, and would have to add them up. I am posting this in case anyone wants to know the process (could not find a shorter method).
It took awhile to find the correct answer (without paypal's help), but the total sales number is available with 5 clicks from the normal starting page:
1) Click "Manage Buttons"
2) On the right, in Related Items, click "Reports"
3) Click "Financial Summaries"
4) Click "Financial Summary"
5) In the Date Range Box, click "2018 (Year-To-Date)", then on the right click "Create Report".
Note that this is an annual summary. It will tell you that it does not include individual transactions.
Your total sales (the amount that will be on your tax form, if it is $20k or more) is the "Sales Activity ..... Payments Received".
