why am i receiving a 1099 if i’m not a business? i have never owned a business in my life.

You probably got one because you either had more than 200 transactions where you received money, you received over $20,000 in payments or you live in one of the states where those thresholds are even lower.
The form issued based on the reporting threshold not of you're are business or not
