I have issued a refund to a buyer who wasn't happybwith product but I sent 37.30 back but they have been told they are only getting 32.50 back

Did you use the refund option??
Sounds like you used the send money > goods /services and they have been charged a fee for selling.
Advice is voluntary.

Did u issue it from the original transaction or the send money tab?
When u issue a refund u should do it by the original transaction(at the side of the payment there is a issue refund tab to click)
If u use the send money tab ppal will see this as a payment and charge fees
