If you funded your paypal payment to the seller that was refunded with a card then it will automatically go back there after being marked as completed.

But it takes up to a week to process back to a bank account and a bit longer sometimes for a credit card payment.

I used PayPal to make a purchase 3 days ago.

The seller never recieved my payment although the money was taken out of my bank account and PayPal said it was transferred.

The reason given was PayPal was having significant issues with their systems and couldn't communicate with the sellers site.

I filed a dispute and PayPal said that they refunded my money into my PayPal account since it was a PayPal purchase, but I have yet to see any other PayPal balance except $0.00.

Total amount:   $5.00 USD

Fee amount:   $0.00 USD

Net amount:   $5.00 USD

Refund:   $5.00 USD to PayPal balance

Date:   Jan 30, 2013

Time:   11:51:17 PST

Status:   Completed

How long does this take?

Since it was funded from a paypal balance it should be returned straight away . Or at least there is no reason for it to be otherwise.

However over and above , Since it was a known and clear technical outage at Paypal (and it was , well documented at that time )  they should not be standing on there processing delay mantra here .

Have you had this resolved now ?

+ you need to click "details" link  into the refund transaction to see the specifics which can show detail that is a truer reflection of the situation .

Also you need to be aware that these statuses are "public" versions of the actual status . Something can show as completed on your paypal account page and you talk to paypal in these cases where you are trying to account for the refund  and they will say something like oh yes the request is completed but its still "processing" and that is the status on there internal system .

This is no where more so that with refunds.

Personally I find that disconcerting and dubious and really needs to be addressed .  The high proportion of help that revolve around that can only reflect that the information is not suitably clear.
