chargebacks

Hi, I am selling an item.

I would like to know what happens if the buyer uses a stolen or fraudulent credit card via paypal and I am later subject to a chargeback.

If I am an honest seller, does paypal indemnify me against this?

Thanks.

Usually No. Depend on situation. If you shipped to confirmed address and customer claimed "not received" or "unauthorized charge" you will (99%) win case, but if customer claimed "not as described" you will loss money AND item for 100%.

Chargebacks are completely different to disputes opened by the buyer via the resolution centre.

They are initiated by a buyer via their credit card company and paypal does not have any control on the outcome of that.

However as you are talking about stolen cards etc then that is more likely to be unauthorised use of account/card and if the transaction was unauthorised then you should be ok as long as you met all the criteria of seller protection.

Be careful if you are sellling very pricey stuff as you will be targeted by Nigerian scammers.

But on the whole if you are selling stuff around the £50 mark then yes you may get the odd dispute for non receipt of item when you have to refund but as long as you describe the item very carefully then you should be ok.
