HI, I sold an item for £185, Nov 2012. Sent it next day special delivery. In January buyer opened a case saying his card was used without permission. I sent paypal copy of his emails, and case was closed. Today have recieved chargeback email from paypal saying the credit card company is saying item wasnt recieved. How can they do this 4 months after I sent the item? I no longer have the tracking no as its been so long. Please help

Paypal have no control over the credit card companies who can chargeback when they want to.
When the innocent account holders paypal account was "hacked" then the address could well have been changed.
However under seller protection even if the innocent account holder was refunded by his c.c. company you would still not lose out IF AND ONLY IF you met the criteria of seller protection and one of those requirements is providing a tracking number to prove the item was delivered to the address on the paypal account at that time.
I have tracking receipts going back at least 2 years just for this reason.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

That is really helpful advice!! I sell on ebay occasionally and I have to admit I usually throw my proof of postage out after a couple of months. Although saying that i DO wait for feedback so I suppose thats covering myself??

Unfortunately paypal do not consider feedback as proof as feedback can be left by mistake for the wrong seller.
Also be careful as proof of postage is not proof of delivery and paypal will only ever accept a tracking number (not proof of postage) that proves delivery of the item to the buyer.
