Scammed on Depop

Hi,

 

I recently bought a dress on Depop, when it arrived i thought it looked real, but when i had it looked at by a friend then told me it was counterfeit.  I raised a claim in Paypal, the buyer then told me to return it, which i did.  Now, i didnot realise this at the time, i asked the lady in the post office to sent it tracked, when i got home and put the number into the royal mail track and trace, i realised she had only sent it standard post.  Anyway, the seller received the dress back and contacted me on Depop to say so, she also said she refunded me, which she didnt.  She never once replied to the paypal case and because i didnot send it tracked, they closed the case in her favour.  I contacted the selller again on Depop and she told me she would refund the money manually, which she did, but then the refund got cancelled.  So i'm £36 out of pocket.  I have all these messages from the seller saying she has received the item back and refunde me, and the proof of postage with her address on.  Neither Depop or Paypal are helping me out! I'm at my wits end.  I'm so annoyed with the post office, as if they had sent it tracked, it would have avoided all this.

I too have just been scammed via Depop!  I sold a brand new IPad Mini 2 to a user for £250.  Due to the high price, I received an email from 'PayPal' (which I later discovered was a fake email) stating that PayPal were holding the money until the buyer was provided with a tracking number.  I did not have any concerns with this as I have experienced this with PayPal in the past.  Once the buyer was provided with a tracking number, he refused to contact me further and I have since realized the whole thing was a scam.  I wasn't overly concerned to begin with since I had proof of email exchanges, a name, a Depop account, a HOME ADDRESS and proof that the same name signed for the IPad and yet to my amazement, PayPal, Depop, Action Fraud and the Police have all refused to help me or give me any of their time to even explain the incredible amount of evidence I have against this thief!

Whilst under the 'new seller hold' funds are released more quickly when you provide a tracking number those funds still SHOW up in your paypal balance first but in the pending section.

 

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Paypal do not tell you to send trackable, they advise it for selling protection but it is not compulsory.

As you responded to a FAKE paypal email then the transaction had nothing to do with Paypal as their site was not used for any of the transaction so of course they can't unfortunately help you. As for the police this is a civil and not a criminal matter.
