Refund for counterfeit item pending

I sent back a counterfeit Mulberry Purse and the seller has processed a refund, but it is showing as pending and won't clear until 9th Oct, why is this? can they cancel the refund if they choose to,  I have returned the purse to them but I have no refund!

A seller can only issue a refund via funds in their paypal balance or an echeque.

So as its an echeque it has to clear through from the sellers bank account to paypal and then it is credited to you and the hold lifted.

This is because paypal don't "refund in advance" like they do when you pay for an item.

Yes the refund can "fail" so keep an eye on it until it clears and completes through to you.
