Monarch Airlines refund

I paid for a return flight on Monarch via Paypal on 3rd Jan 2017.  As it is over 180 days am I unable to make a claim?  I cannot get through to anyone in Customer Services to ask as the automated system does not cover this query.

When low cost airline went bust I am sure that I read that honoured disputes over 180 days so it may be a waiting game. I am lucky as I am within 180 days.

In relation to the credit card paying through paypal I would be careful and check the small print as some credit card companies are refusing to accept this as state it voids the credit card protection

Well, I'm be pleased to say that despite my booking being made on 2 Jan, last night PayPal emailed me saying,

"due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding Monarch, we have made the decision to review your case and as a gesture of goodwill have decided to refund you."

The money is in already! Thanks PayPal, you came good in the end. Hope others have similarly good news.

I too fall out of the 180 day rule. I booked 2 flights December 2016.

I raised a claim which was immediately closed. I have since spoken to them and was told they are looking into claims more than 180 days old and to wait and see what happens.

If this is the case why are certain people in the same situation getting a refund while others aren't?

Surely it should be the same for everyone?

Yes someone said they've already had their money back. My case still says that Monarch have until 14 October to reply to PayPal.

Surely this needs to be sorted soon. How can someone get a refund and someone else not? I agree the paypal advisors need to start telling everyone the same.

It needs sorting asap, I have had to pay another £1600 to go on holiday in 3 weeks time. I really need to find out what is happening soon or I'm going to end up with a huge credit card bill!

Hi @DanT1

Did you submit it as a formal complaint or just via problem with purchase or buyer protection ?

Thanks

Spoke to Paypal again today as not heard anything for over a week. Again i was told as my claim is more than 180 days i wasn't able to claim, however they are working backwards for such claims hoping to sort as many as possible but as mine fell 4 months outside the 180 days it could take a while if it was going to happen at all.

If the is the case how come DanT1 (post above in red) has been paid out when he booked 2/1/17 which is not much different to mine??

I'm not sure whats happening but it doesn't seem fair to me.

I booked my flights in January and received a refund yesterday from PayPal. They wouldn't open a case when I phoned them but after emailing them they did.

Tiredoutdad- I registered my claim the same morning as the monarch announcement, so I’m probably just ahead of you in the queue. Plus, the PayPal staff don’t seem to be generally aware of the exceptions that the higher levels in the company have decided to make. So it might take a while for this smaller team to wade through the claims outside of the 180 days. I had an email from PayPal saying they wouldn’t pay out due to >180 days, only an hour or 2 before I got another saying the money had been refunded.
