Payment on hold until tracking number received Scam or Not?

Received an email that said it was from paypal for confirmation of payment from a buyer I sold an item to.  But it stated that the funds would not be put into my account until they received a tracking number for the shipped item.  I think this is a scam but not sure, has anyone seen this before?

I'm also shipping my item internationally through USPS.  If USPS doesn't assign confirmation numbers to internationally shipped items, then what can I send PP?  They can't just hold the money forever!

So I just called PayPal about these suspicious emails requesting the shipping number and IT IS A SCAM!  The emails we are receiving are not from PayPal.  The PayPal rep I spoke with on the phone assured me that PayPal will never request any shipping information and once the buyer responds to your money request, the funds will be automatically put into your PayPal account.  If the status of the request on PayPal still says pending, your buyer hasn't put the funds into PayPal.  The buyer is somehow sending you emails that look like they're from PayPal, but really aren't.  People, DON'T SHIP YOUR ITEMS!  To help all of the PayPal users, you should forward these emails to PayPal at spoof@paypal.com

I'm afraid, you are not correct. If you wait, you'll see what I mean. When the buyer sends his money you will not immediately get the money. It will be put in pending instead. Try to transfer this "pending" money to your bank account and you'll see that you can't.

I just want to make my situation clear.  There is no "hold" on any money that my buyer is trying to give me.  My PayPal account balance is $0.00.  There should be some kind of pending balance or hold balance if my buyer has actually tried to pay me through PayPal.  I don't have any money in my PayPal account to even try to transfer over to my bank account.  Dave, I think you and I are having two different issues.

hi i have a pending balance in my paypal account and my item has been shipped so your telling me that the money isnt really there and that im probably not going to see the money or my item back

Yep, that's exactly right!  You won't see your money without having to repeatedly calling PayPal. And then you'll get excuse after excuse as to why the money wasn't released and in the end they tell you to give it another 24 hours.... or they're going to refer your situation to a special reviewer and well you need to give them 24 to 72 hours to respond, blah,blah,blah.

 

Out of 4 sales that I've had, all 4 were delivered and tracking number provided.  But none of them were automatically released after 3 days as what should have happened per PayPal's payment hold policy.  The only way it got released was when I called for the 4th time and finally the rep on the phone was able to manually release the money.

 

How crazy is this, huh?  Now we have to work so frikken hard for our money.  OUR MONEY.  We shouldn't have to be putting in so much time and effort to be monitoring PayPal.  Good luck.

so you had to call 4 times to get YOUR money AND you paid PayPal a cut for this "privilege" AND you had to come out of pocket for the shipping/postage?

 

that is LUNACY.
