Duplicate temporary authorisation payment

Hi, I tried to do a ‘Pay in 3’ transaction. For some reason when I pressed pay now it didn’t do anything, it returned me back to the website I was ordering from without completing the order. So I did it again and the same happened despite clearly having more than enough funds in the account so I’m not sure why it wasn’t working. I then tried with a different card and it went through and completed the transaction absolutely fine. The issue is on the first card I tried to use they’ve now taken 2 ‘temporary authorisation’ payments. When the transactions weren’t completed. Plus the 3rd payment on the successful attempt from a different card. The first 2 attempts didn’t work so how do I cancel the payments to release the funds back into my account? I’ve also double check with the store I was ordering from and I’ve definitely only placed 1 order not 3! I hope this makes sense, feeling very stressed as I’m now down a lot of money! TIA

Hi @xanthejanee,

Welcome to the PayPal Community and thank you for your post!

I do understand your concern with this. When you attempt to make a payment, the amount can be temporarily charged to your bank/card. This is an authorization charge.

As the transactions did not complete, the merchant will not complete the orders. Therefore, the two temporary charges will be removed from your bank within 72 hours. This is normal practice for online payments, so no need to be worried if this happens again.

I hope this helps!
