need help to verify the payment

I received an email said that someone has paid for the iPad that I wanted to sell, but I don't know how to verify wheather it is true or a trick

Be VERY careful, it may be a scam..........no funds showing in your paypal BALANCE means that you have not been paid.

DO NOT be conned by fake emails saying you have to provide tracking before your funds show up.
