I have to give out a refund soon and I was just wondering if the money will be taken out of my PayPal balance or the money I actually got from the buyer which is on pending. So would they just take it out of my money which is on hold

The amount pending would not be enough as the fee would have been taken out, so you would need to have the full amount to refund the buyer so it would come from your cleared balance.

Thankyou for replying, for example if I sold an item for £50 and they wanted a refund but the £50 they gave me for the item was on hold, would that mean I would have to give them a refund out of my own money, therefore the money on hold is just gone

No, you would fund the refund from your bank account and then receive the held funds once they were released - the fee that would have been deducted before the held funds were credited to your balance.
