Refund

My friend send me money using his credit card, not knowing it would cause a huge fee on my end. When I told him about it he agreed to use his bank account instead. So I refunded his original transaction and he sent a new one via the bank account. When I got that second payment I sent it on to my bank and noticed that the first transaction which I had refunded said "pending".  Well now this morning I see that the second payment which I sent on to my bank made it to my bank this morning and was immediately withdrawn and sent back to my friend, and the first transaction is still showing as "pending" in my PayPal account. 

What is going on? Why didn't they just cancel or put the funds back on his credit card directly from PayPal since I never accepted the first payment?

I know that there your direct deposit money is on hold. Your money is not deposited as paypal as found your account a little suspicious from there side (Don't be afraid ) Its there spam and fraud check algo that do so to stop fraud. They completely understand that you are a genuine customer hence dont worry. Paypal may sometime hold your funds for 21 days .  There are variety of reasons for doing so and includes many factors.

Only solution wait for  upto 21 days until paypal releases your funds. Don't worry your money wont go anywhere and will stay with you. If they think something suspicious they might even roll the funds back to the sender's account .

You can try contacting them via message center on contact us page as there support services are closed due to virus .They do respond within 12 hrs on the chat message center and you can get a solution there.

It's good to know you're keeping an eye on your record.

If the refund status is pending, it means the transaction was refunded before it's cleared. This process takes 3-5 business days to complete. Once the process is completed, the refund will be credited to your bank account. If you initially paid for the transaction with your credit or debit card, the refund will be credited to that card within 30 days.

On the other hand, withdrawals can take up to 72 hrs to complete through the PayPal system. Generally they will complete within 1 business day and it will be within 30 minutes if you choose one of the instant withdrawal channels, however we will occasionally hold a withdrawal for further review. To provide one of the safest online payment services, our internal security system reviews every transaction before it's released.

This type of review can happen for various reasons.

Once our review has finished, your withdrawal will show as ‘completed’ and will be processed to your card or bank account as long as the review did not turn up any issues. Withdrawals to bank accounts can take 3 to 5 working days.
