Paypal wallet problem

Hi guys

I am new to paypal and I created my account a few days ago and confirmed my debit card. I had a problem today, I wanted to buy something online with paypal, and I had more than enoguh on my paypall walllet but it still used money from my debit card.

How can I prevent it to happen in the future?
