Payment dispute

Hello, I have a deal here. I'm the seller. PayPal sent me an email saying that the system had made a mistake and the buyer had been partially deducted, and then asked me to return the extra money before I could get my payment. Is that true? And how do I do that.

Good Day @Ruiyang050111,

Thanks for reaching out to PayPal.

I don't think this is something that PayPal does. PayPal would not ask you to give money to someone in exchange of being paid successfully.

We want to make sure of course if this is something legit from PayPal so you may also log in to your actual PayPal account and check your notification alert / message center if there is the same message.

To add to that, this is how you'll know that an email was not sent by PayPal if:

  • The email opens with a generic greeting like "Dear user" or "Hello, PayPal member." We'll always address you by your first and last name or the business name on your PayPal account.
  • The email requests financial and other personal information.
  • The email contains an attachment, like a software update you can install on your computer.
  • The email asks you to send a payment outside of the PayPal system, for example via Western Union money order

Hope this helps. Keep safe!
