Friends and Family payment now refunded-pending but no estimated clearance date

So I paid my friend with 'friends and family', and he sent it back but as a refund. The payment status says Refund-Pending. When I go to the activity centre it doesn't show an expected clearance date for the funds. He sent this refund on May 13 and its now May 19. Any ideas on what's going on or what I should do? Do I just wait patiently and hope for it to get cleared? Anyone else been in this situation before? I'm wondering how was he even able to select the refund option for an F&F payment.

Pending refunds can only happen for two reasons.

1. The seller has issued a refund from their bank account which takes time to process.

2. You funded the payment to the seller using bank transfer. What PayPal do here is credit the recipient on your behalf (so there is no delay in despatching your item). Then if you receive a refund in the meantime they are unable to issue this until the original bank transfer completes.
