My son called pay pal to find out where some funds were, and he was told that they needed to verify his identity because of fraudulent activity. He was told to go buy a google play card for $100 and give the code, when that was done he was told that it was "stuck in system" he needed to go buy a $200 card. When that supposedly didn't work he was told to get a $1000 card (which he didn't get) He said he called 2xs and spoke to different people including a supervisor. He has now seemingly lost the $300 with no resolution as to paypal verifying his identity. Is this common practice? did someone at paypal rip him off? How does he now make a claim?

He was not talking to paypal he was talking to scammers.
I guess he used 'google' to find the number OR he read it on a thread posted by a scammer on a forum.
Although these threads are removed as soon as seen some slip through.
That is why paypal NEVER give out their telephone number on this forum and you are not allowed to post phone numbers on here.
The ONLY way to get paypals real number is by clicking on help / contact bottom left of this forum and using the call us option.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
