How Payment Requests & Invoices Work

Hello, 

I'm new to PayPal and wanted to confirm how this process worked. 

I sent a request for payment and the customer sent back an invoice, is that normal?

The way the invoice reads, the money was sent as a gift and everything was paid... but that seems a little backwards to me. 

Is there any risk involved with receiving gift payments? Any help would be appreciated!

Its a SCAM, they send you back an invoice or money request that is PENDING and mark it to look as if its paid.

No money in your paypal balance means you have NOT been paid.
