Old checking account still works after merger?

National City has merged with PNC but I created my paypal account before this happened. I recently purchased something online that was linked to my paypal but the transaction has been completed. I have no pending transactions in my bank account, though and this item doesn't appear in my bank's withdrawals. I provided a back-up credit card incase there was no money in my account but the credit card was not charged and I had enough money to do the transaction. The transaction went through but I haven't been charged. What's going on? How is it possible that it went through to a bank that really doesn't exist anymore?

I ordered this on Thursday night and it is now Saturday afternoon.

Welcome to the boards!

This could still turn out just fine.

When banks merge, one of two things happen to your account information - it either changes, or it doesn't.

If your new bank doesn't change the routing and account number, then it will continue to process as normal.

If it does, then we have a different scenario.  They could reject the transaction.  More likely, however, they will send a Notice of Change (NOC) back to PayPal.  This will update our system, and you'll just need to re-add the bank with the new routing number and account number.

Hope this helps,

Adrian
