I just got finished verifying my bank account with my Paypal account. I then received a message that from now on, all purchases will be made from my bank account instead of the card I have registered. Is there a way to change that setting and choosing which account payments are automatically paid from? I do NOT want payments made automatically from my checking account. I only added my checking account for just in case purposes and to give me a wider range of options.

This not always true. if you pay for shipping for ebay auction, and you initialize the payment from ebay, paypal uses the checking account and does NOT give me the chance to switch the payment method.
I would like to be able to control how I'm paying. maybe it cost paypal more if it's used as a credit card so they use my checking account without giving me the option to change the method of payment. this happened to me at least half a dozen times last month alone.

I have the same problem. I do not want the bank account I used solely for verification purposes being used for payments, a problem you don't warn of when you encourage people to use an account to verify themselves.
I am aware of the "Other Options," election -- I have to use every single time I use PayPal. The problem is that it is (a) in different places on different payment screens, and sometimes hard to find (it clearly was never meant by PayPal to be a popular option), and (b) frankly a pain in the _ss.
Thus your glib answer to us that the bank account is the default payment source, but don't worry, you can elect other options, is very unsatisfying. How we pay is our business, not yours. We ought to have the opportunity to set our default payment method.

Yes, it is so annoying to have to go in and change the default from the bank account to the credit card every time...especially after having the default be my desired credit card for every single transaction for the past two years! I was considering starting a whole new Ebay account for buying just so I could enjoy the ease of my default payment always being my credit card so I don't have to bother with it. I guess anyone who spends a lot on their credit card on an on-going basis with Ebay would feel like I do. I prefer using my credit card for the cashback rewards it offers; evidently, Paypal loses a lot of money in credit card fees when I use my credit card. Soooo...wonder what I am up against starting a brand new buyers account; and I will leave my other account in place for selling...

This is completely annoying and show's Paypal's complete ignorance of what their customers want.
I am removing my bank account from Paypal and will NOT be doing any more business with them once i reach my limit.

I have my default set as Instant Transfer from my bank account. The last two times I purchased postage, it took it from my credit card, which I don't want to happen. How do we correct that? I called them and they said it was a one time thing, but this is the 2nd time for me. Maybe I should just delete the card?

I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to buy something now -- when I click Funding Options, the only choices are Bill Me Later, PayPal Balance, and eCheck. My credit card (registered with PayPal for YEARS) is not listed.
What gives?

It is categorically untrue that this is the way PayPal has always worked. THIS REPRESENTS A MAJOR CHANGE IN PAYPAL POLICY. One we were not consulted on or told about. I, too, have a CC and a bank account verified with Paypal. For my part, I want all payments made through PayPal to hit the bank account, not the CC, unless there is not enough in the bank account to cover. But there always is... Anyway, for at least the last year, there has been absolutely no problem. My bank account has been checked as my "primary" account" (and still is, BTW), and every item I have paid for using PayPal has hit the bank account just as I desire. It has worked beautifully. Until November 18th, anyway. That was the last payment that hit the bank account directly. Starting with 11/19, all payments have switched over to hitting the CC. Why? I did NOTHING to cause PayPal to do this, and I certainly never authorized Paypal to make any changes to my account. Moderator: Please take our concerns seriously and look into this. SOMETHING HAS CHANGED IN THE WAY PAYPAL PROCESSES PAYMENTS. We are not imagining this. It has not always been the way you now describe it. If this is a new Paypal policy, at least please tell us so, and maybe give some justification for the change?

I find this default payment method very annoying. I want my debit card to be my default. They say that you get the option to choice more funding choices. Well that is not always so. I have not had that option twice this week for some reason. I couldn't use my debit or credit cards. It never even gave me the link that said more funding options. I don't know if there are strong negative reactions from removing your bank account, but I am getting real close to doing it.

When I first set-up my account, it only had a Credit Card and I was able to do all the transactions I wanted. I then passed the 10,000 limit and was forced to register a bank account. I did and it became the default. And at times Credit Card is not an option thats because Paypal says the vendor doesn't take that card. NEVER had that problem before, okay fine let me register another credit card but leave my bank account alone.
I will assume the importance of a bank account is because Paypal (a non regulated entity) needs to demonstrate that they "know" their customer by linking to a bank (regulated entity) who "knows" the customer.
The options of eliminating a bank account is to sign-up with one of their credit cards so they make the interchange as well they then collect more info on you so they "know" teh customer.
here is a current situation which lets see ho wit plays out
purchased goods
paypaled vendor.
vendor would not honor price quoted.
purchased cancelled.
In the mean time Paypal hits my account.
I have it rejected.
Paypal says transaction completed on system.
I cannot go and "cancel".
Paypal advises they will try again in 3 days.
