How quickly are funds released after I confirm receipt of goods?

Hi there. I've paid for a vehicle and the funds have been debited from my account. The seller now tells me won't release it until I have confirmed receipt of it and released the funds. This was a surprise to me! I thought I had simply paid him as if it was a bank transfer. But I'm getting nervous now. I've found a "confirm receipt" button on the transaction details, but don't want to click it until I am there with the vehicle in front of me. On the other hand I don't want to make the trip and have him refuse to release the vehicle because he hasn't received the funds. So question is, how quickly does PayPal release the funds to his account after I click the confirmation of receipt button? I've searched on the community for previous advice but couldn't find any. Apologies if this is nothing new.

Either way you have no buyer protection for motor vehicles.

Thanks for the reply. But it would still be useful to know that, for instance, the funds are released to him (seller) instantaneously after I click the "received goods" button. That's all the protection I need. On the other hand, if it takes 3 days (for example) between me confirming receipt and him receiving the funds, then I could understand him not wanting to hand the vehicle over straight away. Any ideas how long it takes?
