Unknown negative balance and hold

For no reason my balance suddenly showed a negative balance of -$745. There is no explanation and nothing showing in activity. It says there is also a hold but when I try to see why it says there is no information. I called customer service and was told it was a PayPal glitch and would be resolved. After 5 days my account still showed negative balance. I sent message and was told it was resolved but it wasn’t. I called again and was told that it did still show a negative balance. I sent another message to state this and that person then said now yes there was a negative balance. So why is this happening and when is it going to be resolved???

Not an answer but same thing Im going through really frustrating nobody in customer service seems to know how to help, my negative balance is similar $714.80 also a hold and when clicked on it same thing no transactions found

I was told it was a glitch in PayPal and it would be resolved in a day or two. Day 5 still not resolved. Sent message and told it was all set. So made a call and that person said it did show there was still a negative balance. I sent a message back to the first person who now responded that they did see the negative balance but someone would call to resolve immediately but I haven’t received a call yet. The person on the phone call said to just wait for notification of resolution. So I got different answers from different customer service people. I did go back to the message and ask that pert why they said my account was forced when it was clearly not but I have not gotten an answer back to that.

My Account is also reflecting a negative balance of 272.22 USD is showing in my account.

I too am going through the exact same situation. Neither my own bank or anything in my PayPal account’s activity history indicated any defaulted transaction. The negative balance showed up out of nowhere. Today I spoke with a PayPal customer service representative who initially chose a transaction that was close to the negative amount but a few dollars off (specifically made on 8/5/21), and then proceeded to tell me it was never paid and that is why I owe the amount indicated. Thankfully I had my own bank statement in hand and my PayPal account history pulled up and flatly refuted her flawed explanation as that particular transaction was clearly paid without issue. She promptly placed me on hold again and when she finally returned, told me the the issue was being expeditiously resolved and the negative balance will be taken care of in 48-72 hours. We’ll see. Not certain if there is a security breach with PayPal; however, based upon what I see here in this community forum, something fishy is going on. I’ll be checking my PayPal account every day to see if and/or when the issue is actually resolved. I’ll reply again after 72 hours to give everyone a heads up.

Well again today my account is still not resolved after I was told yesterday I would be contacted within 24 hours. I messaged again stating this fact and again told that they completely understand why I was upset and it was totally a glitch and not to worry. But now they said it may take a bit to figure out what is going on and figure out how to fix it but I would be contacted as soon as it was fixed and again not to worry. 
I agree that something seems really messed up. But I’ll update this thread once I have any update. I wish everyone luck with their particular issue.

Oh so I just got another message in response to my message stating that I was concerned that this issue is not being fixed and that many other people are experiencing the same problem.

Here is my latest message! They have no idea how long it’s gonna take to fix!!

At this time we do not have any new updates on when the balance will show correctly. You are added ticket number CSTS0007314 for this issue as part your previous conversation with us , and recovery is being done on all the accounts affected by this as we speak. This is done based on the order the accounts were added to the ticket, and we do not know where your account falls in line on this as there are hundreds of accounts that were unfortunately affected by this. Or site engineer are working as fast they can to get all accounts back to where they should be.

It has now been 7 days without any resolution regarding the negative balance issue. So much for the 48-72 hour resolution window. Currently I am waiting for a reply as I have contacted PayPal again.
