Trying to Transfer Money during Lockdown. Paypal Bafflingly Incompetent.

So I'm a teacher working abroad in Vietnam and because of the lock-down here the only option I have to make money is to do online teaching.

Very unfortunately for me most online teaching platforms absolutely require you to use Paypal (believe me I'd avoid it if I could), which means I have to transfer money to my account from the online wallet.

Because of regulations here the money I send to my Vietnamese account has simply vanished. Paypal says it's transferred but it's not there, my bank says they don't know where it is. I've been waiting for weeks for a reply from Paypal and they haven't replied.

But well I can always just send it to my UK account and withdraw money... Or so I thought.

It turns out Paypal accounts are country specific, and you can't actually transfer any money to a bank that isn't in the country you're currently in. And the only way to create a new account is to use a new phone number from the country you're not in. how am I supposed to get one?

Paypal has also handily blocked me from all my old UK accounts that I did have because of their security policies so thanks a lot Paypal I appreciate that. I anyone finds my body dead from malnutrition or Covid within the next few weeks I would like to have 'death by Paypal' written on my tombstone.

Now of course I could probably get a friend or family to help with some of this but there must be a way to transfer money without relying on someone else every time. If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows of something obvious that I'm missing please let me know.

Hi @JohnMartin_re,

Thank you for reaching out to us. If your bank is unable to locate the funds that have been transferred, then I would suggest reaching out to PayPal customer support to explore any available options. To do so, just click the Contact button at the bottom of any PayPal page.

I hope you are able to locate your funds easily.
