Reopening account due to location change

Hello, My wife has recently moved from the USA to the UK and has noticed she can not add her uk card onto the account now. My question is. What's the best route for her? She wants to keep the same email address. So does she need to close her original account? If so how long before she can open a new one with the original email adress just in a different country.

PayPal accounts are country specific so it is always best to close out account and take your money with you before getting settled in another country of residence.

Your wife now needs to close her US PayPal account first and then open a new UK PayPal account with same email address to enter UK based account info.

Close account checklist:

  1. Resolve any open disputes or account limitations.
  2. Zero out the balance.
  3. Cancel any active automatic payments.
  4. Remove financial info (bank accounts, cards).
  5. Go to Settings (cog icon).
  6. Click Close Account under Account Options section.
  7. Business accounts: Click Close Account across from Account Type.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thanks for the step by step. There is no time restraint on reopening the account correct? She will be able to do it as soon as her US account is closed, right?

Yes, she can. But if you want to play it safe, wait a day or two.
