Paypal Negative Balance

I sold an item on eBay, and was mistaken on the subscription it came with.  The buyer requested a partial refund.  When I went to pay via my PayPal account, I see that the balance is negative the amount of the whole item.  How is this even possible?

That's odd. Check your email for any messages about whether a dispute was opened either on eBay or PayPal on the transaction. The transaction amount gets withheld once a dispute is opened.

Also click the transaction in your PayPal account activity for more details.

Visit this page, then select Balance Affecting in the second drop down menu at top of list to see a running balance of where the money got to:
