£0.01 payment notification on mobile for paypal, nothing on account?

Good evening

I did a Google search on this one and there was someone posting about this way back in 2018.  I didn't see a resolution though and maybe things have changed just a bit since then.

Today I received a notification on my mobile concerning a paypal payment of £0.01 being debited from my account (my bank account that is).  I must admit the amount did strike me as being very strange.  I have since checked by paypal and my own bank account and there is no trace of a £0.01 amount on either of them.

I have, however, in the last few days received a new debit card.  Is this one of paypal's ways of verification that the bank account details are correct?  Unfortunately I do not have the notification on my phone anymore despite checking the history, as I usually have the history feature turned off.

I have since changed my banking password and checked for any other similar scams but there doesn't seem to be much information on this one, which is a bit different as most scams generate quite a few Google search results and hours worth of reading...

Any advice?

Thanks.
