Can I supply tax id number instead of ss number?

Paypal is requesting a copy of my ss number. I would rather give my tax id number. Can I do this?

sorry Buddy,you don't have a choice.

if you accept money via Paypal for your business and it exceeds 199 transaction and $20,000,Paypal wil send you a 1099 .that's why they must have your SS  number
