Do I need a debit/credit card to accept payments through paypal with an online store?

People have always told me that if I want an online store (to sell art) I need a bank account with a debit card. But from what I have been reading that does not seem the case. It seems that as long as I have either a credit account or a savings account linked to a premier paypal account I can recieve, through a paypal button, payments either by a buyers credit card or their paypal account. Am I correct in thinking this? If so why have so many people told me that to be a seller you need a credit/debit card? Please help someone with a good knowledge of how this works...thanks

Hello njvg,

It seems that as long as I have either a credit account or a savings account linked to a premier paypal account I can receive, through a paypal button, payments either by a buyers credit card or their paypal account. Am I correct in thinking this?  Yes you are correct.

When you sign up for a PayPal account and receive funds into the account  there are two ways the funds can be withdrawn depending on what is available in your country. In a few countries the funds can be withdrawn by check or to your bank account linked to the PayPal account.

Otherwise, you can link your bank account or credit card to open an account - both are not required.

I hope this helps.
