Setting up YubiKey 5c nfc Issues

I recently purchased 4 YubiKey 5c nfc for the two adults in the family.  Good practice is for each user to have a backup 2*2 =4.  We share some accounts and the easiest way to manage this is for each of us to have a primary and a backup key registered for each account we individually use.  It would be nice if we could register 4 keys to the shared payPal account.  It is very important that we register at least 2 because the two users workstations are separated by a couple flights of stairs.  I have not been able to register a second key much less the desired 4.  The only way we can benefit from the enhanced security that FIDO2 offers is some kind of ridiculous sneakerware set up.  Imagine if all websites were set up to only use one key and we had to keep track of which keys worked on which site?  Sounds like an SNL skit!

My path to getting a single key registered was not smooth.  First attempt using Firefox on a MBPro 2019 running Ventura failed to register the key right after the insertion step.  Switching over to Safari I got one step further with a prompt that asked me to select between another method and USB key... this entry box timed out so fast that I never was able to select USB and continue.  Next attempt which has worked was using Chrome.  But it will not allow me to enter more keys.

These keys have been around for several years so the difficulty with using them on PayPal is a big disappointment.  By the end of this year it will be a deal killer.

I have had the same bad experiences with Yubikey as an authenticator key,. I have tried all kinds of browsers, both on Windows PC and Macbook, but always the annoying message: "timeout error". Incomprehensible that nobody at Paypal seems to be able to solve this.

Hello @jasperx, and @HTMT

Welcome! Thanks for joining the PayPal Community Forum. I can certainly understand why you'd want to add additional security to your financial services.

I'm unable to confirm what third-party security keys are compatible with PayPal, however I'm happy to provide the following Help Center article on How to setup 2-step verification with PayPal.

I don't know why, but after multiple attempts on 3 windows computers, and a Macbook, with different browsers, it worked. It was on a PC with windows 10, and Microsoft Edge, that the annoying time-out error did not show up, and I was able to register my Yubikey 5-c.

Greeting,

HTMT
