Help logging into an old account

So I used to have a PayPal account when I lived in Canada, this account is linked to my gmail account and my Canadian bank account, as well as my old Canadian phone number (which I no longer have). I have not used it in many years.

Someone seems to have hacked into the account and has used it to make a payment on Booking.com. I no longer have the password for the account and when I try to reset the password, the only options I have are to either SMS or call my old Canadian number. I cannot log in to my account to be able to start a chat with the US/Canadian support team. I am at a loss and not sure how to proceed.

I tried to log in to my existing PayPal account but as it is in South Africa, the local support cannot access my Canadian account. I tried to call the support line but after almost an hour of going through various menu options, I was never able to get to speak to anyone, or find any solutions.

Please help ...

Contact options for each countries Paypal customer services are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages.

1. Paypal phones when available (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out.
Or
4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a personal message from their Facebook or Twitter pages.
It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPal and @AskPayPal for Twitter.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
