Hi there

Im really confused. I was selling stuff on ebay and I couldnt list any more because I had to verify my account. So far I've added the account but those two small deposits havent been sent and when I got to the page about confirming direct debit I got really consufed.

What is this direct debit? Is paypal going to just start taking random money out of my account? I just have no clue what their on about confirming direct debit. Im just so worried that they'll drain my money from my account as they asked the address of my buildign society so  I just clicked cancelled.

Any one know what this is about and if its all safe????

Thanks to all who reply = )

Direct debit is a payment method that allows you to make payments direct from your bank account to who ever it is you wish to pay, say paypal or ebay or a bill for example. It is 100% safe and it means that if anyone or any company tries or does take any payments from your account you are fully covered under the direct debit guarantee, meaning your bank will have to refund you 100% and immediately. The whole verification process is about making sure you are the account holder etc for safety issues,  and it can be quite complicated if you are not sure what to do. If you are still at all confused then it maybe quicker for you to call paypal direct as they can talk  you through the whole process,if you email them you'll be waiting a **bleep** of a long time for a reply, hope this helps you. thank you  for your answer = ) I was just mainly confused by what they meant by direct debit, as I always took it to mean a set a monthly payment such as when paying for a phone bill, but after much reading I realised its for paying ebay their seller fees.

Thanks again for replying and helping to put my mind at rest Smiley Happy

Like two previous puzzled Paypal users, I had to verify my account in order to continue using Ebay.  I did all that and now my bank account has been debited by £39.06 and beside the entry is says "Paypal Payment. First Payment" and says it is a DD.  My Paypal account should have been in credit as I've sold more than I've purchased so why have they taken that money from my bank???  And are they going to take any more.  I'm very puzzled and now wary!

Hi

Im still waiting for the two small deposits to go in...its been three days and still nothing = / so I cant say yet whether they'll do that to me too. But have you sold much stuff on ebay before? as maybe their chargin you for the seller fees that you would owe.

but if its not I would maybe ring them up or open up a dispute. i dont know what their number is but if it is an 0800 number, google the website say no to 0800 and then google paypals number so that you can ring them for free should their number be 0800.

But im sure there is a good reason behind them taking the money out such as it could be what you might owe. But if not you could always ask your bank to cancel the direct debit to be on the safe side.

Hi there 607sunsetstrip,

If you have a PayPal balance we use your PayPal balance towards your payment first and the remainder will then be taken from the bank account.

Check your transaction history with your running balance and you will see which transaction this is towards.

You can view your running balance by following these steps:

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.ukand log into your account.
  2. Click 'History' near the top of the page.
  3. Click 'All activity (with balance)'.

Your running account balance is shown in the Balance column.

Hope this helps!
