Question regarding shipped item.

I recently sold and ipod touch on ebay and the buyer is saying that the item was not shipped properly even though i did ship it saftly and told the post office that the item is fragile so they do not toss the item around as much. The buyer also told me that the item has a hairline crack because i shipped it incorrectly. I told him that the item was scratched to begin with but he is saying that the scratch came from my bad shipping. Would i lose this dispute?

You probably will lose the dispute, if it's a legitimate one.

There is another possibility, though - if the buyer has asked for a partial refund for the "crack", they're probably just trying to bargain post-sale.

It's also possible that the buyer is hoping to switch the one that he got for another one that's cracked - that also seems to be a popular stunt.

I'd tell them to ship the item back and you'll refund their purchase price and shipping once you check the serial numbers against your master list (you need not tell him that there is no master list).  If it's a partial refund attempt, or an attempt to switch, they'll likely never ship it back.  Make sure that you do NOT refund until you get the item back and confirm that it's the one you shipped.
