Unfortunately, I encounter the overdraft issue this week. On March 10th, I purchase an item on eBay, I only have 50 dollars in my checking account, so first time (also last time right now), I added my credit card in PayPal. After purchasing, the next couple days, I don't anything happened to my bank account. However, on March 15th (Monday), my account is $-150, and anther $19 has been charged. Then I went to my bank to try to fix the problem, also call PayPal, then carried PayPal email to go to bank again, finally, bank did the overdraft protection for me, but charge another $10 fee. After reading people's posts, I know my loss is not as much as others, but I want to say. I spent my week to solve the unexpected issue caused by PayPal. If PayPal can't do a good job, please don't promise. People uses PayPal for convenience, not trouble. This time, when trouble came, I wasn't be protected, PayPal's email doesn't work. And bank people don't know PayPal and its trick at all.
PayPal!!!, please take your responsibility for this. Either warning people before adding credit card or guarantee you would take care of the rest. Please please please.
People, don't add your credit card in PayPal, I already removed mine. How about you!?

When sending a PayPal payment, PayPal displays the funding source which will be used. It's important to pay attention to the funding source and to change it if it's not the funding you wish to use.
Here's the screen shot from the funding source section of the eBay checkout payment flow...

Honestly, I did pay attention to the "more options", after pressing the link, the page did not lead me to the right page (This also happened before). Then I had to come back to the purchase page again to do the payment. Since on the page PayPal told me if there is no enough funding in the bank account, they will use my credit card. I thought it should be OK.
Besides, how many people here had the same problems since several years ago. You still think this is caused by our carelessness???
Actually, I am also afraid to select only credit card, who knows what will happen next time. PayPal lost my trust. I rather going back to my bank account as before. PayPal is a good tool, just needs improvements and quit pushing responsibility to your loyal customers.

If there are not enough funds in your bank account, your bank "may" charge you a fee. You need to contact your bank if you think they should not have charged any fees.

Yes, I learned my lesson. "I thought it should be OK", because it sounded like PayPal will take care of the rest. Obviously, if I didn't check my bank account often and only trust PayPal's emails and transaction reports, I would be charged fees terribly.
If PayPal will not warn people before purchasing, I feel I have to let people know there is no "more options"!!! Spend how much you have left in the account, don't imagine to add a credit card, then PayPal will take care of the rest. Besides, bank people suggested me that it is no good to give away your credit card information and let it sit in your PayPal account.
Protect yourself, this is the only way.
And to PayPal, this is a common issue has been happening all the time. People are losing money because of trusting your confusing words. Think about it seriously. I learned my lesson, what did you learn?!

If PayPal can't split payment between bank account and credit card, then just tell people directly either choose bank account or credit card while purchasing, then if people choose bank account with insufficient fund, just remind them like "bank may charge overdraft fee" or something like that. I think this is the better way instead of "more options" link may not work sometimes.
How hard to update this part instead of wasting time to find excuse and arguing?!
