Hi DonaldR-
Aside from the transactional processing fees, there are no additional monthly fees to use PayPal unless you are subscribed to a more advanced service like Virtual Terminal.
If you are just receiving payments from other PayPal customers, it's "pay as you go" where you'll see the gross amount sent, the amount of the fee taken out and the net amount posted to your balance.
Thanks,
Jason

Yes, I do mainly receive payments. I've had PayPal for years now, and just upgraded to the Premier account yesterday, but didn't see anything about if there were any fees or monthly fees for having/keeping a Premier Account. But I am assuming there are no fees keep a Premier Account, correct?
Regards,
Donald

Hi DonaldR-
There are no separate monthly charges for having a Premier or Business account beyond the per transaction fees (in the US, starting at 2.9% + $.30 per transaction).
Thanks,
Jason

I'm in same spot as DonaldR; I signed up for Premier. I was a little surprised it didn't give me either a screen that said, There are no additional charges, or, Your costs will increase by xx.xx. The last button just said "Continue"; I figured if it was the confirming button, it would have been labelled, well, Confirm.
Can you tell me, is there any additional charge to anything I will now be doing on Paypal that one did not previously have to pay?
(If there's no additional charge at all, I'd have signed up a long time ago, although I guess I can understand why you don't want to trumpet free services.)
I hope I'm not out of line here; thanks in advance for clarifying.

Hi sclark55-
If I'm reading your question correctly, it's slightly different than the one asked by DonaldR. In his case, he was asking if there was a monthly fee to have that type of account.
You're asking if there are additional charges that will occur on your account.
Technically, the answer to both questions is that you will not pay a monthly fee for having the account, but you will pay 2.9% + $.30 for each transaction that you receive (and 1% more for international payments if the sender is in a different country). PayPal couldn't tell you how much your costs would increase, because we don't know how much money you'll be receiving in your account. And, if you don't receive any payments and only send money, your costs wouldn't increase at all. There is a fees link at the bottom of many PayPal pages or you can type in Fees in the Help Center to learn more.
Hope that clears things up.
Thanks,
Jason

Ok, that helps, thanks. But I am asking general questions. I may have started by asking about a monthly period, but I thought it was clear that I'm asking, in general, are there ANY kinds of charges that will increase? If I was unclear, sorry. But of course, you don't know how many transactions I will make in a month - we all know that that is an unknown. And I just can't stop and jump around to a bunch of Help screens and compare all the kinds of charges under Premier acct and the other kinds; that's not reasonable.
If the thirty cents and 2.9% is the same under Premier and the other, ok, there is no additional charge in that respect to have a Premier acct. But are there ANY OTHER charges that will increase in switching to Premier? If not, I'm having trouble understanding why PayPal can't simply say so.
I also raised the concern, which is related, and a matter of good customer service: When I switched to Premier, why did I only see "Continue" buttons? It is customary to make things a little more clear, such as: "Here is your New Plan; it will cost this (difference). DO YOU CONFIRM?"
Please understand, I am concerned about more than individual types of charges. I need the overall cost of becoming a Premeir member, which PayPal has not made clear. My I suggest you raise this concern with management so they can help your customers better?
Thanks Jason.

Hi sclark55-
I think between the two of us, your question has an answer.
You weren't prompted for additional costs because, if you knew of the 2.9% + $.30 per transaction, there are no additional costs for having a premier account. There is a clickable link to the fee structure on the Upgrade screen in the first bullet point.
Unless you are subscribed to our more advanced features (these involve an application and approval process, for taking credit card orders by phone or fax, for example), there is still no cost to send money and you only pay on the funds received.
In fact, we've recently allowed a new type of payment on the Send Money screen called "Personal," for gifts, living expenses, and a few other categories. If the sender of a personal payment classifies it as such and pays you fully from their PayPal balance or bank account, you don't have to pay the transaction processing fee on those payments even if your account has Premier status.
We have a nice page that breaks down the fees in detail: https://cms.paypal.com/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=marketing_us/send_money_f...
Thanks,
Jason

I now have a premier account and would like to change it back to a personal account since I've been seeing the 2.9% fees on some of the transactions I had. How do I downgrade back to a personal account? I couldn't find this option anywhere.
