Payment holds

Hi

This seems to be a common problem. I have held a Paypal account for 2 years and only use it for ebay buying and selling. The only problems I have with the account is Paypal itself. No matter how well I operate the account they continue to periodically put a 21 day hold on it before they release funds. This is at least the fourth time now and I just don't get it. I could understand it in the beginning when I had no history with Paypal. I am of the view that they use this ploy to generate extra income through interest earned by holding the money for longer in their accounts, high street banks were famous for it. Perhaps someone can explain why they do this to accounts with no previous problems or issues. I managed to get through to Paypal and all they did was email me the complaints procedure after telling me it was because I hadn't made 100 sales and bearing in mind I might make no more than 10 a year allowing them to do this random holding for next 10 years. But their reason doesn't stack up because I know people with less sales than me who get their money instantly. Perhaps someone can explain.

Cheers

Read through this and see if any apply to you.

Payments are held if:

  • You have been selling on eBay for less than 90 days
  • You have an eBay feedback score fewer than 100 and have not yet established a record of good performance
  • You have received fewer than 20 Detatiled Seller Ratings on eBay in the last 12 months or your eBay seller performance is below standard
  • You have a high rate of customer disputes or a low eBay feedback percentage
  • You have been a PayPal member for less than 6 months and have limited selling activity
  • You have a sudden change in selling activities (e.g. suddenly selling expensive items, selling large numbers of items, etc.)
  • You happen to be selling in a high risk category such as tickets, travel, gift vouchers, computers, electronics, mobile phones, etc.

Depending on the circumstances, paypal may set aside payments for a single transaction or for all payments to sellers who meet the criteria above.
