I've just gone through my 1st dispute with PayPal - and the decision has gone against me where I had a credit card charge back.  Is it possible to get more info on why the decision was made?  I've read through all of the paypal stuff but cant understand why.  If I call paypal will they explain the decision in detail?

Quick summary if anyone can make sense of the details:

* I sold an item (+ gave away some virual items free - FIFA points).

* Someone bought the item, I posted it, transferred the FIFA points and then had a claim filed against me.

* They claimed it was an unauthorised card used and the funds were put on hold.

* I had proof of postage of the physical item (& proof of the transfer of the virtual items) - both of these were given to Paypal.

* The decision has gone against me and I've lost my item, the virtual items, the money I received and now been charged for the chargeback.

Should i not be covered for the physical item here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

B

Hi boylemeister,

Welcome to the PayPal community forum.

Chargeback’s are slightly different from normal PayPal disputes. This is when the buyer goes direct to their card issuer to advise that it is unauthorised. The card issuer will then contact PayPal and request the funds back. PayPal can dispute it on your behalf however we do not get the final say. If the credit card company decide after we have disputed it that it is still unauthorised then we must return the funds.

We would then look at our seller protection policy to cover you. I would imagine that you were not covered as the item you sold was intangible and we do not offer protection for intangible items.

I hope this helps
