Refund from a bank account payment

Hello!

Just now, I accidentally made a purchase online and didn’t realise that my PayPal account was linked so that it would make the purchase straight away. I have my actual bank account linked to my PayPal so I know that the payment can sometimes go through your bank account rather than your card and so it may take a few days. I cancelled it straight away. Will it still make a charge to my account and then the refund starts it’s process? I apologise if it is a stupid question - I haven’t done this before.

Thank you you very much

Hi there Lskins94.

Welcome to the Community!

I'm sorry to hear that you have accidentally sent a payment through PayPal. Your best option to get this resolved would be to reach out to the merchant directly to ask them to refund the payment.

If you have canceled the direct debit linked to your bank account, this would not cancel the payment on your PayPal account. If the payment is refused by your bank, our system may then try to debit the funds from your back up funding source linked to PayPal. This is why your best option is to ask your seller to refund the payment through PayPal as this will help to reduce the possibility of the payment being debited from your bank.

I hope this helps.

David.
