Friends and family fee

I have just made a payment to a friend, also in the United Kingdom, but have been charged a fee - why?

Presumably you funded that payment via a card?

Its only free it you fund it via funds already in your paypal balance OR bank transfer and not a card.

Thanks for that - just realised I had forgotten to use my bank account as payment method! Duh! It's Monday after all.
