Seller asking me to provide home address and phone number as confirmation

I recently purchased an iTune Gift Card online. After making the purchase and paying via my PayPal account,

the seller sent me an email (looked like an automated one), asking me to provide not only my shipping address

but as well my home address (if in the US) and my phone number. Is this legal? Is it proper? Is it necessary?

I have often purchased on the web using PayPal and rarely am I asking to confirm that I am the owner of

the PayPal account, by provided this kind of sensitive and personal data.

Thank you

Hmmm...Never been asked that using paypal, that info is provided in your account set up for shiping, payment etc....

Like you said though, it just may be an automatic thing that shoots out on all transactions that the seller has set up.

i ordered a coat and sent the payment by paypal, then the seller asked me for a shipping address and a phone number. i didn't know they can acquire my shipping address and phone number without asking me, so i gave them.   i paid them on 1/5/2011 and still haven't received or heard from the seller. i sent them a couple of inquiry email this week, but so far no reply.  should i open a dispute? (i found after having sent them the money by paypal, the name of the company showed up in chinese characters...) the amount i paid was about $260. what should i do....
