I recently received an e-mail from an entity identifying themselves as "paypal". They stated that my paypal account had been hi-jacked and that I needed to contact them. I clicked on the icon www.paypal.com and was sent to a location stating that I needed to give them more information and giving me an access number. I became suspicious and logged out. I then logged in to paypal and found no such information about hijacking. Has anyone else had the same experience.

I just received an email saying that a debit of 11.00 dollars was processing. I knew I hadn't used paypal for anything so I knew there was something wrong. Under that info was a link that said cancel transaction, which is what they want you to do and what I did. The link redirects you to a mock up of pay pal's login page. After you enter username and password the next page is an "identity verification page" when I saw all the info they where asking for I immediately knew it had to be a scam. I logged out and went into paypal and no such transaction was there. What can I do after this to protect my account?

I had an Item on Craigslist. Someone said they wanted to purchase the item and asked that I sent up a Paypal Account. I did set it up and informed him that it was all setup for the transfer of funds. THEN ............. recieved email that money had been deposited but I would need to send money via Western Union to have the funds credited to my Pay Pal account. Every email came with Pay Pal letter head and Western Union Letter head. BUT PAY ......... PRIOR TO RECIEVING MONEY!!! RED FLAG Called Pay Pal immediately and sent them the emails concerning the transfer of funds. YES THEY SAY IT IS A SCAM!!
Thank goodness I had enough sense NOT to send the money or anything so crazy but alot of people may so be aware!!

I just checked my e-mail and it had an item from "Pay Pal" that looked legitimate. It said they checked for security issues frequently and there was a question re: account number ____ and that my account was now limited. I have McAfee and they are great. When I accepted that log,in McAfee asked how I got to that site and I may have been diverted to that site. I then tried to log in to pay pal myself and McAfee said no errors noted on that site.
Once I checked my legit Pay Pal site, it stated I had no issues!
I have Pay Pal in case, since I am trying to start a business and have not needed it yet.

They are back again. It's over a year since your posting and I received same email to wrong email address. Don't trust anyone, so went right to my account and everything was fine. No mention of this on the news. Forwarding email to FBI fraud website.
