Fraud re camera purchase -- HELP!

Dear more-experienced users than I -- I've been doing business on ebay for some years, but I've run into a situation I'd like some advice about before I chance it with either the folks there or at Paypal or at the Mastercard the transaction finally was processed through.

In March of 2006 I bought my husband a state o' the art (at that time) canon rebel xt AND a five year platinum protection plan (or whatever they're called -- the really good ones).  All told approximately $1000 was spent -- that was back before the recession when I still HAD money.

Now I don't, and little things like cameras needing work and discovering that BOTH Barclay's Cameras in New York and the people they ran their guarantees through had vanished a long time ago.  It also turns out that these people have had many names and quite a record of -- vanishing.  So -- to whom do I turn? Even though it was in 2006 I still had another year on my five year warranty -- I discovered all this over a year ago but didn't find the proof until recently, in my Capital One files.

Is there a statute of limitations on this sort of thing?  Paypal claims to cover losses -- but of this nature?  would the Mastercard company be a better bet?  This absolutely **bleep** because my husband is a brilliant photographer, and there's a big gray spot in every picture he takes -- and our 5 year warranty is worthless.  We have definitely been scammed, and do not know what to do.  Assistance, and advice would be deeply appreciated.  Oh -- and here's a terrific article on the perps:  http://consumerist.com/2006/04/barclayspricerite-devious-camera-mongers-strike-again.html

Thank you,

Julie
