Can I get my money back from this scam?

This was my first time buying a knife from a forum with paypal and I didn't know what I was doing. The guy told me he would send me a tracking number. After I sent the money, he said he received it and he would send tomorrow and he never relpied. He has logged on twice since I've replied and it was five days ago. The reason I am REALLY worried is because I didn't know what I was doing, and I made the mistake of doing the payment owed option instead of paying for goods. From what I've read, there isn't anything I can do because I don't have enough "proof", but I'm still trying to have hope. Is there anyway I can get my money back?

Note: I have submitted a dispute, but I don't think Paypal is going to do anything about it since I did the payment owed option instead of goods...

I will tell you this...PAYPAL WILL DO NOTHING TO RESOLVE A SCAM........NOTHING.....I sent $63.99 and $59,99  to a company who RECIEVES their payments thru PAYPAL and I never recieved my good OR my money back from either one....I put in disputes after dispute and was told to EAT CROW. How can PAYPAL take payments for virtual goods, and send the money to the frudulent company and take their word for it that the goods were delivered...when they WERE NOT...this is BS...I will neve use PAYPAL AGAIN and I will set out the word that PAYPAL does NOT PROVIDE ANY PROTECTION from fake and phoney companys like   Ying Chen...

Hi Luke_oX and ParatypicOne. Welcome to the forums!

Luke_oX - PayPal does have Purchase Protection for items purchased, but the payment has to be labeled as an actual purchase. When you send funds as a personal payment, you're essentially establishing at the outset that no item is changing hands as a result of the payment, and therefore no tracking should be required of the recipient of the payment. It's important to correctly classify the transfer at the outset, so the agreement being made is apparent to all.

I recommend continuing to communicate with the seller. I had a similar situation with a seller once myself, and started thinking the worst, and it turned out that she had just gotten sidetracked. She apologized and got me my item and it all worked out. It wasn't great seller behavior, but at least it wasn't malice, just inattentiveness.

ParatypicOne - You're correct that virtual items are not covered by Purchase Protection, but you can still file a dispute. If you escalate it immediately to a claim it will close out because there's no coverage, but if you leave the dispute open and use it as a means of communicating with the seller, everything communicated through the dispute will go on record. It may encourage the seller to do the right thing. If it doesn't, it will at least be on file that the seller was uncooperative. PayPal watches for trends of bad experiences with sellers. We don't want it to happen any more than you do.

It's important to be cautious when making a payment that doesn't qualify for Purchase Protection, because the risk is in your hands to evaluate and make your decisions based on it. If you feel that the risk of a transaction is not acceptable to you, you can opt not to take the risk. It's a similar situation for sellers in a virtual transaction. They also have to weigh their risks and decide whether or not to enter into a transaction for intangible goods, knowing Seller Protection does not apply.

Having a good understanding of where and when Purchase Protection applies is great for keeping your buying safer. I wish you all the best on your future transactions.

PayPal_Olivia - Its been seven days, and after the payment it told me he was non-US. I've messaged him on the forum we orginally communicated with, and have since then messaged him multiple times with no reply, and I sent him a email to his paypal email. I've pretty much lost all hope.

I filed a dispute on this company. When I made the first order for $59.99 I got an email from them stating that I had forgotten my telephone number and that they would be refunding my money for that order and that I should place a NEW one and make sure my number was on the order....so trusting them I placed the new order for $63.99. To my surprise the next day I saw that they not only got the $59.99 from my bank account and the $63.99 but they did not refund the money and then I waited to get the goods in the game...I did not log out of Secondlife for 6 days....during that time I realized I had been a party to a rip off scam and made a dispute....thats when I got the responce that the goods had been delivered ...but my transaction history in the game showed nothing of the sort.....apon that false statement I went back to paypal and put in a claim for fraud.....I did not know that it would cancel my first complaint against this compant....so now here it is ....the 17th of Febuaryand I am out aprox $130.00 and recieved nothing of the product as I should have and have a dead end in finding a resolve. YES I am angry...very VERY much so...I have sent countless emails to the company and NOT ONE SINGLE REPLY.....not one. And Paypal will not help me...
