eBay double dipping with Final Value Fee's + PayPal transfer Fees....

Does this infuriate anyone else as much as it does me? Ebay increases their final value fee's to an average of 9%, then PayPal which is owned by eBay is taking 5% from you on the payment transfer! This is ridiculous. Sacrificing nearly 15% of your money to the same company. Does anyone else agree with me on this? They think they can sugarcoat it with their lower listing fee's but they nearly doubled the final value fee's when they lowered those. Anyone know a way around paying fee's on the PayPal transaction? The mafia wouldn't even charge 15%. Its double taxation.  They don't take into consideration the Selling price - the final value fee when the paypal fee is calculated. So the same dollar amount is taxed once at the 9% final value fee, then AGAIN at 5% at the paypal transfer. This is insane. Is anyone behind me on this????

PP will probably delete this, but I have given them thousands over the years in fees as I sell high dollar items on ebay..they have killed my profits.  I am looking for other alternatives.  Google Checkout is one if you sell a lot and have a website...there are fees but they are less than PP.  People are scared to use some of the smaller alternatives, but not Google.  I am working to get my website up and sell through there.

They can delete all they want. Eventually it's theirgreed that will run people off. They are killing the golden goose and the golden goose is US! I wish you much luck with your website and thanks for the info!!

Totally agree, I sell a lot of repaired electronics, and have been breaking even basicall, they take about 14% in fees.  Just about done with it.

I'm confused on your math you guys... I sold $2168 in auctions and between ebay and paypal fees I paid $174. Thats 8%....

Honestly $174 to cover both selling and banking fees seems right about on par for how much the value was. Do I wish it was lower ABSOLUTELY but **bleep** craigslist is dangerous and im so tired of dealing with scumbag people.

Like others, I was surprised to discover that Ebay was charging fees on both ends of the sale.  But there's one way you can fight back:  Pay your Seller's fees using your credit card instead of your PayPal account.  That way, Ebay gets charged a credit card transaction fee, which will offset the money they're getting for PayPal fees.

I used eBay and & Paypal for the 1st time to sell my golf clubs, what a rip off!  No Kidding...fees on top fees...sold my clubs for 300 and I have to pay these bloosuckers nearly $40 plus in tacked on fees and paypal is holding my money until 4/4/2011, I bet they are making intereest on my F'n money in the overnight investment market when pooled with other monies being held.. This is a joke...I should work with my good buddy who is a software genius and create my own verison and charge a quarter of the fees...there should be BBB/FCC/FDA and any other gov't agency to break this stranglehold!!

I agree 100% with your comment. I am so fed up with double fees and now I have been charged .97cents on a $13.25 order that normally has been .81cents. You get nowhere trying to contact them and complain. Ebay wont let you offer any other form of payment so you are stuck with paypal.  Fed up....

Yes, hence my nickname. I wish the company didn't double dip on us. I guess the owners got a little greedy. These are profit minded business folks and they expect us all to have a capitalistic state of mind and pass the exponential costs to the buyers. Ebay still is a great place to buy stuff on discount and to seek recycled goods. However, I feel bad for the sellers who lose out on profit due to the rising fees.

Smiley SurprisedI totally agree and I would think this would be illegal but with ebay with paypal being so big now, I am sure their lawyers made sure everything they are doing to us is legal for them and the heck with us. This is typical America now, hurray for the rich and who cares about the middleclass and poor?

Sure wish there was something we could do about this. It is very very frustrating.
