PayPal fees

The PayPal guide says

“PayPal does not charge any fees when you pay for goods and services within the US using your account.”

We paid for services $750 and PayPal charged them $22.50.

That is a very high fee.

When is a PayPal payment free?

Thank you.

Paypal has an interesting scam going.  The fees they charge are high, bordering on usury.  They obfuscate the fees, by not putting them on the first page of your account summary.  Clever on their part, but clearly people are figuring it out, hence Adrian paypal's explanation about fees.  It is hard to find the fee info on the paypal website and they don't disclose them. You have to look for the fees.

Which brings up the question.  How come Ebay stock is in the crapper (has been for years) if they're collecting 3%, yeah right call it 2.9% for virtually every transaction being completed?  Probably the people at the top earning $21 milion or more each year, while the poor idiot, Elizabeth, at the 800# is left trying to justify the exhorbitant fees.

If my firm did business this way, we'd be arrested.

What Paypal standard fee is 2.9% plus 30 cents.

That fee can be less depending on your business volume.

Other money transfer companies charge more than paypal.

A complete listing of paypal fees is in the user agreement, under #8 FEES, you know the one you read and agreed to.

Not like it was "in the old days". Everyone has their hand in your pocket now and no matter how much you protest or how hard you try you just can't get them out. If ebay owns PayPal does seem like double-dipping. The two have had it so good for so long they just through their weight around and really don't care. I just started re-selling on ebay to get rid of some things in storage and can't believe the nickel-an-dime routine we get. Combine that with the large numbers of duplicate items on ebay and it's no wonder nothing is selling unless there is a high demand for it. I've seen a lot of auctions where people can't give it away for a penney...but that could be from everybody using priority mail for their shipping. And I agree, the fees basically are hidden. I got hit with fees with no explanation and no link to an explanation. Also got charged for tracking when I didn't ask for it. I was thinking they might be charging to printing a label with them instead of directly to the USPS until I started digging into this.

Try 9% now. Really :

9% for transactions under $1,000 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those smaller sales have to be a great percentage of the transactions.

That is over-the-top.

That class action check I got really put it on them.

I will not be selling anything on there any more.

3% was pretty bad, can't cost that much to host if Craig's List is FREE.

There will be competition starting up in the next year or so.

Hi Hope-Iridescent, and welcome to the forums!

If you click "Fees" at the bottom of any PayPal page, it shows the fees that apply to different types of transactions. Fees in a purchase transaction are not paid by the buyer. They are paid by the seller, who is using our service to accept payments.

You can learn more about fees in this FAQ, as well.

I hope this helps!
