Forced to us PayPal by eBay FEES FEES FEES - Fight back

I agree the PayPal and eBay fees are insane.  What I feel is unfair is the eBay forces us to use PayPal.  I think we should be able to shop around and use any service we want.  I wonder what would happen if the US Attorney General office started getting letter from all of us that are unhappy with the charges?  Join me in writing to them and not just on this web page.    I have listed the address below.  Remember two things the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  And letters negative complaint letter may not get the attention that a well written concern letter would.  I am sure that what they are doing is legal but let us see if we can turn up the heat.  Good luck to all of us.

And just to make the policy completely unfair eBay is charging fees on shipping also..  Double dipping by double companies.  Leave no incoming funds unfee'd.

Now if a person wnats to think double dipping ,, ebay and paypal are one in the same even tho they say there not but ebay bought out paypal awhile back and now is in controle of the complete network.

Yeah I have to totally agreed to ya that it charge way to much. Is it because the ebay buck was running that it try to compensate that? I don't like that ebay buck thing and probably will never use it since it will expire if you don't use it.  If you sell one item at two dollars and ebay fee is 0.50 cents and the final fee would be 20 cents more, and send the cash to paypal which deduct another 25 cents. Which you will profit only $1.05 cents... By the way don't forget how much it will cost you to buy that item. Yeap another 50 cents and a  gain of 50 cent profit... Rather go collect CRV cans and get paid 5 cents each... Making them sitting on their desk for all your hard work... =\  Only way to get profit on ebay is things you can make out of nothing...

Actually, if you look deep into ebay's policies, they do allow buyers and sellers to to use a different payment system. It doesn't excuse the massive fees that are imposed. Basically, since ebay owns paypal we are getting hit twice for fees. Yes, I know they are separate companies.

Now, if you do a refund, paypal is going to charge you .30 to do the refund. This is a NEW fee started last month.

What needs to happen is some government regulation. Paypal is not regulated. It's not a bank. I'm going to file a complaint in North Carolina on what I believe to be excessive fees.

Where will it stop? They have a monopoly and as sellers we are paying for it.

The problem with taking your business elsewhere is that the customers don't think to browse Craigslist (which is local anyway) or Etsy, etc. EBay has done such a terrific job of marketing itself that it is the go-to place for shoppers.

I agree that the fees are outlandish, especially for the small sale seller.  I am trying to build a business selling small items and there is no profit left after eBay's AND payPal's fees are taken out.  Now eBay is taking a cut of the shipping charges, also.  What is the good of having a store?  They are giving all the discounts to the people who are big sellers to begin with.

I see people selling $.99 items and would think there is nothing left over after all the fees are taken out. Then I click on the item and see they are top selllers--which reduces their fee per item sold.  They can charge less, which results in more sales, which allows them to qualify as top sellers.  How can I possibly compete with that? 

The system is stacked against the small business...and that may be eBay's plan.  They care about their bottom line, not ours, and possibly they benefit more from the handling a few big ticket items than the processing of thousands of inexpensive sales.  As pointed out elsewhere in these forums, it is ironically the thousands of small sellers that allowed eBay to build up to the giant it is today.

Actually I think that the fees that both Paypal and Ebay are charging is a bargin.  They give us a worldwide (or countrywide) market for our products and saves us so much time and risk of trying to match up buyers and sellers and hand the exchange of money in a safe way.  Is 10 or 20 percent too high for all this?  I don't think so.

But if you want to use a different and lower cost market system, go ahead.  For me, I think that is just the cost of doing business and I am really happy that they have created a system of exchange of goods and services that has never easily existed before in such an integrated way.

Let the market work and shop around if you think the price is too high.

If EBay would suddenly pay me to sell on their site, I might consider it.  Otherwise, I'll continue with my OSCommerce site and my merchant account.  PayPal is just a convenience for my customers, and it rarely gets used.  A few customers have told me that the PayPal process takes too long. They would rather use the checkout on my site.
