Changed bank account

Just got 3 emails from paypal.

1st to advise me that a direct debit cancellation failed (on my old account)

2nd to advise that paypal attempted to transfer money from my account (again my old account)

3rd to let me know that the bank reported insufficient funds (same again on the old account)

I updated my bank details and as far as I can see on the history tab on my paypal account the last transaction was completed with no problem and clearly shows that funds were taken from the new account so can someone tell me what this is all about?  Why would an attempt to transfer funds from an old account take place and for what reason and what direct debit is this and why would paypal cancel it anyway?
