Is This an Appropriate Use for Donation Button?

I have an informational type website with a forum for survivors of Aneurysms. I am not a registered 503c non profit, there are no fees for use of the site and there are no ads or any other kind of financial support for the website. Being an Aneurysm survivor myself this is something of a labor of love and I fund it all myself.
The maintenance of this site is time consuming and there is a cost involved. Would a donation button to help offset some of these costs be acceptable and in compliance with Paypal rules and terms of service for use on this website? As I use Paypal for E-Bay and other sites on the net I have absolutely no desire to violate the rules or terms of service and have my account frozen or suspended.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
Mike

Hi miked, and welcome to the forums!
Congratulations on being a survivor! I did have to remove the URL, since we remove any solicitation for donations. I realize that wasn't the purpose behind your posting of the URL, but we apply the policies as evenly as we can. I do wish you lots of luck with your site and the running of it!
Your best bet is to be extremely clear in your verbiage on your website that the donations are not tax-deductible, and that you are not a 501(c)(3) entity.
I hope this helps!

Thanks, yes the answer is helpful. I apologize for the url, I should have read the rules prior to posting.
Yes, I would clearly state that any donation are not tax-deductible, but let me be certain that I am correctly understanding you. As I find paypal very useful I want to be exceptionally careful not to violate the rules or terms of service. So, if I understand you correctly.
The addition of a Donate Now button to my website for the purpose of soliciting small donations would be permissible under the rules and terms of service provided I clearly state that I am not a 501(c)(3) entity and the donations are not tax-deductible?
Is there anything else I should do or be aware of? Thanks again Olivia for taking the time to respond to my question.
Mike
